Interview With Vinee

I had the opportunity of interviewing Abj's number 1 rapper "Vinee" , Vinee who recently dropped a track titled oxygen feauturing Tunde (Styl-Plus) , i had alot to ask and he also had alot to say lol

What’s your full name?
Aboh Robert

What type of music do you make?
Rap

What’s your stage name?
Vinee

How did the stage name come about?
its actually an urban English word for extraordinary individual so unique in his dids

What’s your background?
I am first from a family of 6 (including mum and dad) 2 boys and 2 girls all born and residing in Abuja,

When and why did you start making music?
I started in 2013 because I have passion for music and I love the life of a music celebrity

Do you play any instruments? If yes which instruments do you play?
I play the drums

Which famous musician(s) do you admire? Why?
Ludacris, J-Cole, Mi abaga & 2baba (I love them because of their intelligent lyrics)

Were you influenced by any old records & tapes? Which ones?
I was always inspired by 2 baba and Mi abaga..I always felt like they were talking and always making sense with their music

What’s your most embarrassing moment as an artiste?
I really don't think I have any most embarrassing moment, I am mostly careful about embarrassment, lol..

When was your first performance? How did it feel?
I have always been a performer, secondary school I was a dancer and mimer of rap music

How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
I don't believe there is a mistake in a performance cause I will make it an advantage, there was a time I was performing and the light went off I continued free-styling until the light came back on and got a standing ovation for that

Do you get nervous before a performance?
Nervous? I think I have performed in stages enough for me not to get nervous again (saying this in the most humble form)

What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
Being nervous is a good thing take it that you're being cautious not to make a mistake  and That's good

Most people complain about 90% Nigerian music sounding alike? What’s your take on that?
They are not lying and we are not arguing lol its called trend of music and genre (which is suppose to sound similar not the same)

How do you balance your music with other obligations? Like relationship and family
Relationship is life, music is just a part of life (relationship and family always comes first)

How is your personality reflected in your work?
I believe I am an intelligent person so I always try to sound intelligent in my lyrics (even if its a party song)..

What does “being creative” mean to you?
Being creative in my line as a musician to me means ability to jump on any kind/type/style of music without sounding wack

How do you overcome creative blocks?
I just tell myself (what would MI Abaga do) this is the truth

What are you trying to communicate with your art?
I always try to communicate intellect and creativity that's why I do English, pidgin, Yoruba, Igala and most recently Hausa rap

What’s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
The best advice I ever had was "always follow the trend, it keeps you relevant" ..

Which Nigerian artiste would you like to work with?

Which foreign artiste would you like to work with?
My name sake Robert Kelly (R.Kelly), J Cole and drake....I just graduated from school about to serve (music is all I do for now)

Why music? Why not Music

What memorable responses have you had to your music?
When I was live on a radio show and my dad texted me to say "I am proud of you boy and I like your song (that was when I did my song " oxygen ft Tunde of styl-plus)

What food, drink, song inspires you?
I eat anything (good is bar, I don't do alcohol, my best kind if music is RnB & blues (funny enough)

What do you dislike about the music industry?
I don't dislike anything tho, I just want the industry to get bigger and provide more platforms for growing acts

What makes you angry?
Angry? Any talk that doesn't involve money #OwoNiKoko

What is your dream project?
My dream project is: go international and shoe those guys that Nigerians are good in music not do an international collaboration and still sound like we don't value lyrics over here just rhythm and beats 

Name three artists you’d like to be compared to?
Compare me with 2 PAC (cause of my voice), compare me with Mi abaga ( cause of my lyrics), compare me with Myself cause I always see myself as my biggest competition

Professionally, what’s your goal?
Professionally, my goal is to be the greatest of all time from this part of the world

If you could advice upcoming artistes, what would you say?
My advice is, always know what you want,do good music, sell yourself regardless of who's buying, you can take yourself for granted but never take your music because people will judge you by what they hear you say

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
5 years is too much to see myself where I wanna be, by Gods grace in the next 2 years I want to be the first name that would be called when you talk about rap music from Africa (amen)
